Non secure site

Everytime I log onto this forum I get the warning message, ' non secure site'. I'm not sure what to make of this as I have used this site from almost the very start and had no problems or issues. I only ever log on with my phone and will not stop for the time being.

Does anyone else get the same message when attempting to log in?

We don't have an ssn that's what gives you the s in the https at the beginning of the web address ours is just an http. It's not an issue with this forum as we don't collect personal information and we don't have a payment system.

It would be an extra cost for the admins that basically isn't justified. I hope this helps clear things up for you

Hey Greybeezer. I would consider myself not very technology or IT minded so I appreciate you taking the time to explain.

I'll keep on enjoying the site as I have done for many years.

Yes, you can just ignore the warning.

What the browser is telling you is that data sent between this forum and your computer is not encrypted. No big deal, unless you're connecting via a public unsecured wireless network, but I think those are extremely rare these days (if they exist at all).

If you are using wireless networks you don't trust, you can use a VPN, such as ExpressVPN, to provide encryption.

The reason this site doesn't use HTTPS (the "S" stands for "Secure") but plain old HTTP is that we are running very old software here, and it is not easy to make it work with modern HTTPS certificate solutions.

In the 15 years this forum has existed, it has never been an issue, so I personally don't worry about it.
